Simple Chicken-Style Tofu
It’s kind of hard to find a perfect vegan chicken substitute, but this simple Chicken-style tofu recipe might get you close!
Though the natural texture of tofu doesn’t naturally lend itself as a chicken substitute, it does have the ability to absorb flavors that it’s soaked in, and with a little work with some dry extra-firm tofu, you can get your vegan chicken substitute together really quickly!
There are pre-prepared vegan chicken substitutes available as well if you need something quick 🙂
This particular vegan chicken substitute comes with an Asian flavor so feel free to experiment with the ingredients you add to the sauce!
Ingredients
Instructions
The first crucial step is drying your Tofu. Drying tofu is easy, simply cut the large tofu block into smaller cubes, and lay them between several paper towels (top and bottom) on a cutting board. Place a frying pan or similar large flat object on top of your covered tofu.
Leave for between 30 minutes to an hour.
Roughly crumble the dried tofu in to smaller pieces and toss with a tablespoon of corn starch.
Heat a wok with peanut oil on a high temperature and cook until it resembles a browned meat.
Remove the tofu from the oil and on a low-medium heat add the ginger, garlic, and mushrooms.
Leave for one minute then add the soy sauce, brown sugar, broth, and a little siracha if you like!
Stir this for around three minutes, and then add the tofu while bringing the mixture to simmer.
Cook for around another two minutes and then serve with your dish!
