Here’s a healthy, dairy-free alternative to the usual Naan, which I have to admit, is sooo delicious.  It really bugs me that it tastes so great and isn’t vegan, but now – here we have it!  This recipe is pretty easy, and once you get it down, you can put your own stamp on it to make it really special by adding spices, garlic, or whatever you like!

Ingredients

  • 3 1/2 Cups
    All purpose flour
  • 1 Cup
    Whole wheat flour
  • 1 Teaspoon
    Salt
  • 1 Teaspoon
    Baking powder
  • 1 Teaspoon
    Ground coriander
  • 1 1/2 Teaspoon
    Ground cumin
  • 1 Cup
    Plain soy milk
  • 1 Cup
    Vegan sour cream
  • 1.4 Cups
    Garlic (finely chopped, optional)

Instructions

  1. First of all, mix the flour together with the salt, baking powder, cumin, and corriander in a large bowl.

  2. Then, Stir in the soy milk and the vegan sour cream, then knead it in the bowl till it holds together well, adding more flour if necessary.

  3. Place the dough on a floured surface and contine kneading for about 5 to 10 minutes till the dough feels smooth and elastic. Form the dough into a ball and allow it to rest in a covered bowl for about an hour.

  4. Take the dough out and cut it in to 12 pieces. Form each ball and press out to form little discs.

  5. Heat a large, non-stick pan or griddle. Roll out each disc to 1/4 in thick. Lay it on the hot griddle and cook it over a medium heat for 2-3 minutes on each side or until it puffs up and some spots appear.

  6. Serve it hot or at room temperature, but its way better hot!
